05/17/2019 - After delays with the construction of the M/V Ocracoke Express, the NCDOT Ferry Division has acquired the services of the M/V Martha’s Vineyard Express for the busy 2019 summer tourist season. The ferry will transport passengers from the Hatteras Ferry Terminal directly to Ocracoke Village, docking in Silver Lake. County Officials Collecting Economic Impact Information Tomorrow

8/03/17 - In response to the economic impact on the Ocracoke Community, the Hyde County Manager, Director of Planning and Economic Development and the Public Information Officer will be on the island tomorrow, August 4 at 10:00am in the Ocracoke Community Center. We will be collecting information from island residents and businesses to begin building a case for restitution of the economic losses related to the power event. Ocracoke Community Recovery / Outreach and Main Transmission Line Repair Updates

Restoration efforts last night revealed only two lines sustained damage

7/30/17 - Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) confirmed this morning that all three transmission lines that provide power to the islands were compromised. They are currently working on two solutions to repair the lines. Full press release here.

7/30/17 -  As of 4:00pm Saturday all three of the mobile generators were operational and providing power for the residents. The island is still running on generator power today with no issues. Full press release here.
