Students got a chance to help local government get organized by building shelving units in the Government Center in Swan Quarter.
Assembled on site
MATTAMUSKEET STUDENTS (from left) Ryan Catlet and Kendrick Smith assembled a shelf on site at the Government Center in Swan Quarter. The seniors are in Butch Harris' Furniture and Cabinet Making III and IV Class. Within two hours, the young carpenters had the shelving unit ready for use. (M.S. Shaw photo)
A job well done
KENDRICK SMITH AND RYAN CATLET, seniors at Mattamuskeet High School admired their shelving units after they assembled them in a storage room in the Government Center in Swan Quarter recently. They didn't take all the credit, though. MHS junior Cody Sawyer and MHS senior Frankie Pegram - all students in Butch Harris' Furniture and Cabinet-Making Class - helped design the unit before it was transported to Swan Quarter to be assembled on site. The students said it took about three days of hour-and-a-half class times to complete the project. (M.S. Shaw photo, courtesy Hyde County)
Neat and organized
FILES AND PAPERWORK are now neatly stored at Hyde County Government Center after Mattamuskeet High School students took on a shelving project and fashioned storage space for the documents. The space is especially important, as it allows easy access to public records and documentation. Hyde employees have been busy the latter part of 2011 with state and federal paperwork required to receive assistance from Hurricane Irene. Having easy access to documents simplifies this process.
