Mattamuskeet High School’s TRU Club
offers games and prizes during basketball game
The Mattamuskeet High School TRU Club sponsored educational games and prizes during the Mattamuskeet vs. Ocracoke basketball game to inform people about the dangers of tobacco use.
Members from Mattamuskeet High School’s TRU Club (Tobacco.Reality.Unfiltered.) were on hand to play tobacco prevention games that focused on the dangers of secondhand smoke, health effects of tobacco, spit tobacco, and why teens start. There was also a “Proud To Be Tobacco Free” banner that people were encouraged to sign. The TRU Club members gave out prizes to participants of these activities.
“TRU is a youth-led movement that rallies teens in North Carolina to get the message out about the dangers of tobacco use,” commented Elbert Maynard, the TRU Club Advisor at Mattamuskeet High School “this event was a great way to get our teens involved.”
